The buildings themselves will be very high tech, requiring a skilled workforce.

Another 800 more jobs will be created in the local economy to service Magna Park Peterborough. And the construction process will create a further 600 new jobs. The current plans for Magna Park include a small unit development of about 5 acres, for the use of local firms engaged mainly in
manufacturing and office functions. This part of the development will complement the larger units, which will be designed for the needs of major national and international companies with logistics requirements.
Our operations Trains will be offloaded by ‘reach-stackers’ and the freight sorted. Some will be moved onwards by rail again, whilst other goods will be stored in one of the warehouses until needed for local delivery. Our sites operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so we are mindful of the need to protect local residents against noise and light pollution.

We have a “Dark Skies Policy” which we insist on at all our developments. This means that light pollution from the site will be minimised by using lanterns with full cut-off shrouds, short lighting columns to
keep lamps low and placing lights on brackets on buildings. These measures ensure that all direct light is directed in a downward direction, thus avoiding what we call ‘spillage’ into surrounding offsite areas.

Gazeley’s success in managing light pollution at Magna Park Lutterworth has been recognised as an example of “best practice” in a government Countryside Commission report. It is now standard practice for external lighting to be agreed separately by the planning authority, which Gazeley welcomes.
