Stanground Bypass We know that some extra road freight traffic will be created around the site to meet consumer demands for the localised movement of goods away from Magna Park.

Gazeley expects these site users to treat local communities with respect. We have a successful agreement with tenants written into our contracts at other Magna Parks whereby certain roads are ‘off limits’ to lorry drivers. We expect to have a similar agreement for Magna Park Peterborough with drivers facing dismissal if they fail to meet this stringent requirement.

We expect lorries from Magna Park only to use the new Stanground bypass that is being built to serve the new residential development known as Stanground South. Construction of the bypass is already under way and whilst the eastern end is already
planned to be a dual carriageway, thanks to the Magna Park development the bypass will become a dual carriageway along its entire length, increasing its suitability to take traffic away from Stanground streets. Persimmon – who are building the houses – hope it will be completed during the latter part of 2009. Peterborough City Council has said that no houses can be occupied on the new development until the bypass has been completed.

And I can also promise that no building will take place at Magna Park until the bypass is completed. Other Road Traffic Some increase in traffic is inevitable as Peterborough grows - the council have plans for 20,000 new jobs and 25,000 new homes by 2020. And whilst Magna Park Peterborough will contribute significantly to the jobs target, the shift patterns will
mean that there will be little increase in traffic during the traditional rush hours.

Most employees at Magna Park would start work at 6am, 2pm or 10pm, so traffic movement will be spread out, and most of it would use the new bypass to the Fletton Parkway which will be much quicker and more convenient than using local roads through Stanground. Continue >>
